Common Questions
Charter, volunteer, and family basics
Do families really need to log volunteer hours?
Yes. Family service is part of the MVMPCS charter school community model. Two-parent/guardian households are asked to complete 30 volunteer hours each year; single-parent/guardian households are asked to complete 10 hours. Start with the Volunteer page.
How does the lottery work if I already have a child enrolled?
MVMPCS enrollment is managed through MMCI. Sibling preference may apply through the lottery process, but families should review the current MMCI enrollment guidance and application steps at mmcimd.org/enrollment.
What is MMCI's role?
Monocacy Montessori Communities Inc. (MMCI) is the nonprofit charter holder that partners with Frederick County Public Schools for MVMPCS. MMCI supports governance, enrollment, and the long-term charter partnership.
Who handles pickup changes, contact updates, and extra carline cards?
Use the school office for early dismissals, pickup changes, transportation information updates, address or contact changes, and extra carline pickup card requests.
Does MVMPCS follow FCPS weather closings and delays?
Yes. MVMPCS follows FCPS closings and delays. Families should check FCPS.org and FCPS notification channels for weather or emergency updates.
What should I do if I am not receiving school messages?
School updates may come through School Messenger, email distribution lists, the school calendar, and the parent Facebook group. If you are not receiving expected messages, contact the school office so staff can help check your contact information and distribution list status.
